FAQ
More coming soon, but for now:
About Me
1. Why use a pseudonym and hide your identity?
Since I still work in investment banking for a bulge bracket bank, I felt it would be completely inappropriate to use my name, or even give too many details leading people to learn which bank I work for. If at any point in the future I leave my job and pursue something outside of investment banking, or even something outside of bulge bracket investment banking, I will lose the pseudonym and the rest of the details will surface shortly thereafter.
About the Site
1. Why did you start this site?
See the About section. In short, I believe that my background and experiences can help students and career switchers from all schools and career paths get into the game. Having graduated from a non-Target school and made the move from operations to ultimately bulge bracket investment banking, I think that I can approach issues with a different level of insight and a unique perspective that many people will [hopefully] find valuable. Additionally, I saw an opportunity to help others learn from my mistakes, benefit from my better decisions, and apply the tips and strategies that I have acquired throughout my career to land a job in investment banking.
2. Will this site teach me everything that I need to know about investment banking and whether it is a good fit for me?
Yes and no. As far as compound questions go, this is a doozy. Answering the fit question first, I can honestly tell you that there is not a single site that can tell you whether something is a good fit for you, whether you will be good or better than others at something, or whether you can handle the hours and stress of investment banking – that is purely something that you need to research and be honest with yourself in evaluating your interest and capacity to handle such an environment and profession. What this site can do for you, however, is provide a wide array of information to help acquaint you with the specifics of investment banking: the physical, the psychological and everything in between. Furthermore, although I believe that as this site evolves it will contain a vast amount of information exploring many aspects of investment banking, I am firm believer in treating knowledge the same way as career prospects – cast a wide net and take in as much as you can. Look to news sites, blogs, etc. Compare and contrast information and where questions arise, feel free to drop me a line, Contact, and we’ll be sure to discuss it and figure out where the disconnect lies and any reason(s) for it.
Additionally, I will provide news updates on a wide array of analyst-related topics from the economy, to bulge bracket banking, to politics and policy, and even several news stories (and articles) on business school. Ideally, visiting Bank on Banking will provide the readers with a hearty variety of banker news, stories, and insights. It shouldn’t be the only web site that you visit, but it should be the first.
